278pp, 450 color illustrations.

First published by Chivalry Bookshelf in 2007, the Sword in Two Hands describes the principles underlying the arte d'armizare, the fighting system created by late fourteenth, early fifteenth century Italian swordmaster, Fiore dei Liberi in his surviving treatises.

Sword in Two Hands presents an introduction to Fiore, his times and his approach, and it forms the core of the Schola Saint George's approach to medieval fighting and fencing.

Done in full-color, featuring unique "top down" footwork illustrations that have received much positive commentary, Sword in Two Hands covers stance and power generation kinesthetics, a greatly revised section and arms and armour, discussions of the segno, poste or fighting positions, and six key plays that the Schola Saint George (est. 2000) have used to introduce new students to Fiore's fighting art. New essays discuss the distinction between armoured fighting and unarmoured fencing; reorder the plays to reflect the signature importance of finding and placing the point, and it provides extensive background for both historical and martial context. This is the "textbook" for the Schola's level 1 "ellefante" course curriculum.
