The renowned Italian swordmaster, Fiore dei Liberi, was active in Friulia, Northern Italy, at the end of the 14th and into the first decades of the 15th centuries. His martial art, "arte d'armizare", taught combative use of the sword, dagger, spear, and poleaxe, in and out of armour, on foot and on horseback.
This pin is based on a drawing of the dagger master from the "Getty" treatise. Fiore's treatise is especially strong on grappling and dagger work, so this appropriate rendition of the dagger master declares a love for or interest in the very active giocco stretto or close play. It is about 1 1/2" tall and full of rich detail.
Made from high-detail bearing jewelers' brass, featuring a solid pin on the back side.
